Abstract

JULFIQUAR ABDUL W. Institute of Graduate Studies, Central Luzon State University, Munoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, May, 1993. IDENTIFICATION OF COMPATIBILITY GENES IN RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L.). Adviser: Dr. Sant S. Virmani WIDE Studies were conducted in the field and greenhouse at the Philippine Rice Research Institute, Maligaya and in the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) from June 1991 to April 1993 to determine the inheritance of WC-traits identified in several WCVs at IRRI and the allelic relationship with WCV possessing identified genes. WC-trait for pollen and spikelet fertility was found to be controlled by a single dominant gene. WC-genes of BPI 76 (P); Moroberekan; Palawan; IR47686-5-10-B; IR47699-29-6-10; N 22 and Lambayeque were allelic to WC-gene of Dular but non-allelic to S5h possessed by Norin PL 9, while WC-genes of Calotoc and Fossa HV were allelic to Norin PL 9 but nonallelic to Dular. Incorporation of the identified WC-gene from Norin PL 9 and Dular in the genetically diverse Indica and Tropical Japonica parental lines can result in developing Indica/Tropical Japonica hybrid rices.
