Abstract

The present study was conducted at the Spices Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Shibganj, Bogura during 2015-2018 to find out the suitable genotypes of coriander for leaf and seed production throughout the year as well as to standardize the package of technologies for year round leaf production. In this regard, eight experiments were conducted to achieve the objectives. All experiments were laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications, except experiment number eight where used in eight replications. Sixteen different coriander genotypes (CS1, CS2, CS4, CS5, CS6, CS7, CS8, CS9, CS10, CS11, CS12, CS14, CS15, CS16, CS17 and CS18) were evaluated in respect to leaf and seed yield. Among those genotypes, CS11 gave the highest leaf yield (9.87t/ha) and CS4 gave the lowest leaf yield (3.57 t/ha). The highest seed yield (1.78 t/ha) was recorded in CS15 and the lowest seed yield (0.79 t/ha) was found in CS4. Three different groups of genotypes were found from cluster analysis. Group I consisted only CS4 genotype and group II thirteen genotypes (CS1, CS2, CS5, CS6, CS7, CS8, CS9, CS12, CS14, CS16, CS17 and CS18) and group III two genotypes (CS11 and CS15). Twelve sowing times were used to find out the leaf yield potential of the sixteen coriander genotypes. The genotype CS11 gave the highest leaf yield (5.33 t/ha) and the highest BCR (4.22) followed by CS15 (3.47t/ha; BCR = 2.81) and the lowest was found in CS4 (1.41t/ha; BCR=0.67). In case of sowing time, the highest economic return observed during November to April (BCR = 1.09-2.22) than May to September, where maximum return for leaf production was recorded in the month of November sowing (BCR=2.22). The experiment was conducted to assess the quality seed producibility of the same sixteen genotypes in winter and summer season. The genotype CS15 gave the highest seed yield (0.94 t/ha) which followed by CS11 (0.39 t/ha) and the lowest seed yield (0.59 t/ha) was found from CS4. On the other hand, winter season gave higher seed yield (1.33 t/ha) than summer season (0.14 t/ha). Another experiment was conducted to find out the germination percentage and it was found that pre sowing sprouted seed gave the highest germination percentage (79.60%) followed by mulching with gunny bag (68.77%). In connection to the three seed rate and four row spacing were evaluated to find out the optimum seed rate and maximum use of land. Significantly the highest leaf yield (10.62t/ha) was obtained from 50 kg/ha seed and row to row spacing 15 cm followed by leaf yield (10.52t/ha) from 40 kg/ha seed and row to row spacing 15 cm. Eleven doses of manures and fertilizer were investigated to find out their economic uses. The highest leaf yield (10.27 t/ha) was recorded from N0Pз0Кз0 and this dose was found as optimum with conducive economic performance (BCR=2.09). Subsequently seven different shading percentages were imposed to find out optimum one for maximum leaf production. Attalia net which gave 40-45% shading was found the best for growth and the highest leaf yield (6.08 t/ha) of coriander and the highest BCR (4.70). Finally, the best performed production practices were studied combinedly to develop a improved production technology package for coriander leaf cultivation to increase the economic return of farmer. In this regard, it was found that improved production technology package was performed six times higher leaf production than the existing practices.
