Climatic change impact on fishery in the world oceans: An attempt of statistical forecasting

Abstract

Temperature plays a very important role for fish production in the lake, pond, river, ocean and other water-bodies where the fish lives. The assessment of the impact of the water temperature changes on fish catches in world fishery is essential for sustainable management of the world fishery resources. The present research was undertaken to determine the correlation between the temperature of water and the fish catch in the world fishery resources and to develop a new method for forecasting of fish catch of the major fishing areas in the world ocean under the Global Climate Change (temperature) with probability statement. To develop a new method for climate (temperature) impact on world fishery resources the data on historical behaviour of surface water temperature and fish catches were analysed and processed to assess the dynamics of spatial temperature distribution and fish catches for the world oceans. . Firstly, the annual mean temperatures (first moment) were used which gives the desired location information. Secondly, in order to compress the information contained in the temperature distribution it was presented in the form of moments. According to Lyapunov's theorem any distribution can be presented by its moments without the loss of information. Really four moments were rather sufficient for describing the characteristics of any relatively smooth distribution. The normalised values of moments were used since it was more appropriate for smooth distribution.
