Abstract
Fifty advance lines of lentil collected from ICARDA, Syria were studied to identify the
suitable ones which could adopt themselves in Bangladesh condition in respect of yield
and seed quality. To screen the suitable advance lines, the experiment was carried out
during November 2003 to March 2004. Ten experiments out of which two were on
laboratory, one adaptation trial at Joydebpur, one on seed multiplication trial and three on
adaptation trial at three loctions for first year and another three trials at three locations for
the second year. The experiments were carried out during the period from November
2003 to March 2008. The laboratory experiments were conducted at the seed technology
laboratoty of BARI, Joydebpur. The adaptation trial and seed multiplication trial at the
research field of BARI Central Farm, Joydebpur. The adaptation trials were conducted at
BARI Central Farm, Joydebpur and the Regional Agricultural Research Stations of
Jamalpur and Ishurdi. Second year trial based on the seeds selected from the first year
trial were conducted at Joydebpur, Jessore and Ishurdi. Storage trial with different
containers proved that polythene bags and plastic containers in airtight condition were
better for storing lentil seed under ambient environment. Lentil seed can be stored safely
when treated with 5GY - 15GY gamma irradiation. Among the advance lines, ILL 4605,
ILL8618, ILL 9935, ILL9945 and ILL9949 were identified as good for ten months
storage. Laboratory experiments were laid out following completely randomized designs
with three replications and field experiments by randomized complete block designs with
three replications. The advance lines ILL 7979, ILL 7980, ILL 9927 and ILL 8618 were
found to give better yield at Jessore location. In Ishurdi, the lines ILL 9926, ILL 9945,
ILL 9989 and ILL 9927 were identified as superior than the other lines. The advance
lines ILL 4605, ILL 9926, ILL 91517 and ILL 8618 were found promising for cultivation
at Joydebpur location.
