Abstract
Quality of TLS of rice was found to vary among the different seed samples collected from formal,
semiformal and informal sources. Highest moisture content viz.13.71% and 13.84%, respectively were
recorded in company T. Aman seed in 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 and lowest 12.83% and 12.72%,
respectively were recorded in BADC Boro seed. Maximum pure seed were in 2007-2008 and 2009-2010
99.86% and 99.18%, respectively in BADC Boro seed and the minimum by 97.46% and 96.82%,
respectively were recorded in company T. Aman seed. The highest germination of TLS in 2007-2008 and
2009-2010 were 91.30% and 91.10%, respectively that recorded in BADC boro seed, while lowest by
76.82% and 76.61%, respectively were recorded in farmers' T. Aman seed. In 2007-2008 and 2009-2010
the highest apparently healthy seeds of TLS were 56.95% and 56.71%, respectively that were recorded in
hybrid seed, while lowest by 38.07% and 39.94%, respectively were recorded in BADC Boro and
Company T. Aman seed, respectively. Associated seed borne fungi were Aspergillus flavus, Alternaria
padwickii, Bipolaris oryzae, Curvularia lunata Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme,
Sarocladium oryzae and Penicillium spp. Highest association of fungus was recorded in farmers' seed,
while lowest was in BADC seed. Sorted out clean seed, washed seed, washed and sorted out clean seed,
seed treated with garlic extract (1:10), seed treated with vitavax-200 (0.3%), seed treatment with BAUBiofungicide (2%), seed treated with Brine solution (10% Nac!), seed treated with urea solution (2%) and
contro! (untreated) as treatments. were used. Out of the treatments, highest germination and normal
seedlings (94.13% and 89.38%, respectively) were recorded in washed sorted out clean seeds, while the
lowest (79.75% and 66.88%, respectively) was in control (untreated) seeds. Seedling vigour was higher
(3255) in washed sorted out clean seed and lower (2605) in seed treated with brine solution. Under field
condition highest grain yields in the year of 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 were 4.73t/ha and 4.86t/ha,
respectively where washed sorted out clean seed was used, while the lowest yields 2.63t/ha and 2.98t/ha,
respectively were recorded in control plots, i.e. grain yield was increased by 44.39% in washed sorted out
clean seed plots. Significant variation among the treatments was found in respect of using different spray
treatments. Up to 79.39% healthy seeds were obtained in BAU-Biofungicide sprayed plot. Moreover,
lower incidence of seed borne fungi viz. B. oryzae, C. lunata, F. moniliforme, F. oxysporum, A. padwickii
and A. tenuis were recorded in BAU-Biofungicide plots. In addition, highest grain yield up to 10.07 t/ha
of BINA 5 was obtained in BAU-Biofungicide sprayed plot. Management of quality of seeds of rice was
studied by using different containers as well as different additives. The lowest moisture content (14.00%)
was recorded in plastic drum with chalk powder as additive. The highest germination and normal
seedlings by 97.00% and 94.00%, respectively were recorded when seeds were stored in plastic drum
with neem leaf, while lowest by 38.00% and 40.00%, respectively were recorded in metal drum with no
additives.
