Abstract

Investigations were conducted at Dipta Orchids Ltd. Fulbaria, Mymensingh, during the period from March, 2012 to December, 2015 to study clonal propagation, vegetative and reproductive growth of Dendrobium White 5N (hybrid orchid) affected by different ratio and doses of N:P:K formulation. Growth, development and flowering were also studied under different shade levels, manipulated day and night temperature, plant growth regulator (6-Bengile amino purines) and different humidity levels. Finally vase live of flowers was investigated under different chemical mixture. The experiments were conducted to develop protocol for commercial production of Dendrobium White 5N. Among the doses, interval and ratios of N:P:K formulations 6.0 gL¹ of N:P:K at 30:20:10 solution applied at 3 days interval as spray were the best for higher number of clone production mother stem and also for growth of clones. The vegetative growth of saplings most of the vegetative growth parameters of saplins were supported by 10.0 gL-¹ of N:P:K at 20:20:20 formulation sprayed at 7 days intervals. Reproductive growth like inflorescence length, inflorescence diameters, number of inflorescence plant¹ and the number of flower inflorescence ¹ were found the best with N:P:K at 05:46:23 formulation sprayed at 3 days intervals at 10.0 gL1. The effect of different temperature levels (Day and Night) was affected quality of flowers. Maximum flowers were obtained in day and night temperature in 26.8/18.5:23.0/10.0:28.8/11.8°C at Dec:Jan:Feb, compared to others treatments. Among the four levels of humidity created by 1 time spray, 2 time spray and 3 times sprayday¹ with a non spray control the best result was revealed at 3 time spray which was similar to 2 time spray per day. Reducing of sun light intensity by black shade net was affected growth and development of Dendrobium White 5N. Vegetative growth of saplings was significantly enhanced by 75% shading but flowering growth was the best with 25% shading. Different concentration of BAP viz. 0.0.0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mgL¹ applied as spray supported growth and development differently. Among the concentrations 1.5 mgL¹ of BAP significantly enhanced the growth of shoots, roots, length of inflorescence and number of flowers inflorescence after 135 DAP. Vase lives of flowers were studied under the treatments of mixed solution of sugar, silver nitrate and citric acid. Among the 17 treatments, sugar:silvernitrate:citric acid = 75 g:750 mg:150 mg mixed water solution was found the best in supporting vase lives after 27 days setting. As a packing material during transportation porous poly bag was the best over newspaper, wrapping paper non-porous poly bag and open control for higher vase life of flower and theirefore, to be recommended.
